Decibullz Custom Molded Earplug Instructions

Model: PLG1

WARNING

Improper fitting or misuse can reduce the effectiveness of earplugs and lead to hearing loss or injury.

  • Test earplugs in progressively louder environments.

  • Do not enter high-noise areas unless you're confident the fit is secure.

  • Always wear hearing protection in loud environments.

  • Handle boiling water and hot earpieces with caution to avoid burns.

  • Wait until earpieces cool to just above room temperature before inserting.

  • Remove all ear piercings before molding.

  • Check tips before every use to ensure they are securely attached.

  • Remove earplugs slowly to break the acoustic seal.

What’s Included

  • 1 pair Thermofit® Custom Molds (Left & Right)

  • 2 Back Plugs

  • Max Isolation Foam Tips – Medium (NRR 31dB)

  • Triple Flange Silicone Tips – S/M/L (NRR 24dB)

  • Drawstring Carrying Pouch

Materials Needed (Not Included)

  • 2 Ceramic or Glass Cups

  • Kettle or Microwave

  • Boiling Water

  • Timer

  • Mirror (recommended)

  • Metal Spoon

Molding Instructions

STEP 1: Heat the Water

  • Microwave: Fill two cups (ceramic or glass) with 3–4 inches of water and bring to a boil.

  • Kettle: Boil water and pour 3–4 inches into each cup.

Do not microwave the molds. Do not use plastic, paper, or Styrofoam cups.

STEP 2: Soften the Molds

  • Place one mold per cup (they will stick together if placed together).

  • Let molds sit in boiling water for 5 minutes.

STEP 3: Prepare for Molding

  • Remove a mold using a metal spoon.

  • Let it cool for 30 seconds.

  • Attach back plug and silicone tip to mold.

  • Check that the tip is securely attached by gently pulling.

STEP 4: Insert into Ear

  • Insert the mold into your ear.

  • Press firmly on the back plug to ensure a tight fit.

  • Ensure the tip is deeply seated and aligned with the ear canal.

STEP 5: Shape the Mold

  • Smooth the mold into the concha (bowl) of your ear using your fingertip.

  • Avoid using fingernails to prevent indentations or uneven texture.

STEP 6: Secure the Seal

  • While cooling (approximately 5 minutes), press the back plug every 30 seconds to help create a better acoustic seal.

STEP 7: Remove and Finalize

  • Remove mold after 5 minutes.

  • You may now swap the silicone tip for the Max Isolation Foam Tips for higher protection.

STEP 8: Repeat

  • Repeat steps 2–7 for the other ear.

Testing Your Earplugs

  • Talk Test: Your voice should sound deeper or muffled in both ears when wearing earplugs.

  • Cup Test: While wearing the earplugs, cup your hands tightly over your ears. If sound changes significantly, the seal may be incomplete.

  • Noise Environment Test: Start in a quiet room and gradually move to louder environments. If things sound too loud, recheck fit or re-mold.

Molding Tips for Best Fit

  • Use a smaller silicone tip during molding for easier insertion.

  • Re-mold if the fit feels uncomfortable or incomplete.

  • Each ear may require a different size tip.

  • Insert the tip deeply first, then mold the outer material.

  • If the mold is still hard in the center after heating, place it back into hot water until fully pliable.

  • Molds can be remolded as many times as needed.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Wash molds with mild soap and warm water.

  • Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.

  • Inspect molds and tips before each use for damage or loose components.

  • Store away from direct sunlight or heat sources above 120°F / 49°C.
