No, they do not need batteries. The Percussive Filters use a filter that stays open until a loud percussive sound goes off. As the large sound pressure hits the filter, the filter closes blocking out harmful noises that can damage your hearing. For lower noise, the filter remains open allowing the user to hear ambient sound and surroundings.
