What Does Flat Attenuation Mean?Updated 8 months ago

Flat attenuation refers to a situation where the amplitude or intensity of a signal, such as sound or light, decreases uniformly across all frequencies or wavelengths. In other words, when a signal experiences flat attenuation, all components of the signal are attenuated (reduced in strength) by the same amount regardless of their frequency.

For example, in the context of audio signals, flat attenuation would mean that if you had a range of frequencies from low to high (bass to treble), they would all be reduced by the same factor. This maintains the relative balance of frequencies in the signal, ensuring that no frequency range is disproportionately affected. As a result, the overall character or quality of the signal remains unchanged; it just becomes quieter.
